How To Get a New Smile Now [Cosmetic Dentistry]

Cosmetic dentistry makes it possible for you to enhance the appearance of your teeth. Your teeth are one of the most notable parts of your physical appearance. They're one of the first things people notice during interactions and their condition typically leads to assumptions being made about who you are. Those with seemingly perfect teeth are viewed as successful and attractive, while those with badly damaged or stained teeth are often viewed in a negative manner. While you should never judge a book by its cover, many do.

How cosmetic dentistry fixes smiles

Dentists have a variety of options to choose from when it comes to restoring their patient's smiles. Here are some of the popular ways dentists go about enhancing teeth.

1. Teeth whitening

Ask most people what they would like to change about the appearance of their teeth and a large number would indicate that they would love to have whiter teeth. Nowadays, grocery stores and pharmacies are stocked with all sorts of whitening products, but none of these are anywhere as effective as a professional whitening session performed by a dentist.

Dentists have access to stronger bleaching agents that are not sold to the general public. A single treatment performed by a dentist can improve the whiteness of a patient's teeth by up to 10 shades.

Patients usually get a custom mouth tray made for them at the start of in-office whitening treatments. The tray is used to evenly distribute the bleaching agent and to prevent it from seeping into the gums. An ultraviolet light might be used to agitate the bleaching agent to create a stronger whitening effect. Whitening treatments are effective on most types of stains, such as those caused by foods and drinks including coffee, as well as those caused by smoking tobacco.

2. Dental bonding

Dental bonding is another simple way to improve the appearance of a smile. It can be used to repair chipped and broken teeth. It is done using a composite resin that is matched to the color of the patient's real teeth.

It is a non-invasive procedure that typically does not involve the use of any anesthetic. The dentist prepares the patient's teeth with an etching solution so that the composite adheres better to it. The composite is then directly applied to the tooth. It is shaped as necessary, then hardened with a special light. The dentist wraps up the treatment by polishing the newly restored tooth.

3. Crowns

Dental crowns have many purposes in cosmetic dentistry. They can be used to cover up chipped, fractured and broken teeth. They can also be used to improve the appearance of deformed, decayed or badly stained teeth.

The best part? A crown can last up to 24 years with good oral hygiene, and it does not require any special maintenance.
